Documentary | INDIVISUM : LEGACIES ADRIFT
Family land in Guadeloupe, a French territory in the Caribbean region. Dozens of heirs. Conflicts spanning several generations.
For this Canadian filmmaker returning to her ancestral homeland of Guadeloupe, the conflicts in her family become the starting point for a personal quest.
She seeks to unravel the root cause of family discords due to land inheritance. What she discovers goes beyond her own story. In this unique place, thousands of families are prisoners of their own land and property unable to develop, enjoy or sell it.
Eventually, she lifts the veil on a little known legacy of colonialism: a system that continues, even today, to break up Guadeloupean families and dispossess them of what belongs to them, one plot of land at a time.
