Film | A TRIBE CALLED JUDAH (2023)
Tribe Called Judah tells the story of Jedidah Judah (Funke Akindele), a single mother with five sons from five different fathers and five different tribes. The two eldest sons are responsible and do their best to work and provide for their mother. However, the three younger ones constantly get into trouble: Pere is a notorious pickpocket, Shina is a thug and street leader, while Ejiro is carefree and only thinks about his girlfriend, Testimony. Despite their behavior, Jedidah continues to support them and repeatedly helps them out of difficult situations.
The situation takes a dramatic turn when Jedidah is diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. She needs ₦18 million for an operation and ₦400,000 per week for dialysis treatments. Emeka, the eldest son, loses his job, and the five brothers decide to rob Emeka’s former boss—rumored to be a money launderer—in order to save their mother’s life. Their plan goes wrong when they run into armed robbers. The operation ends with the death of the eldest son, who becomes a sacrifice for his mother’s survival.
